In today’s fast-paced world, the pursuit of professional growth and academic excellence often goes hand in hand. In the dynamic landscape of the modern tech industry, individuals often find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities – from work commitments to educational interests and personal hobbies. In my case, the art of balancing hobbies, work and education is both daunting and rewarding.
From Rural Roots to Urban Heights: Born in a middle-class family in a small village, where dreams often meet the harsh realities of life, I dared to dream differently. After completing Class XII as a school topper, rather than opting for the traditional path of pursuing B.Tech, I embraced the innovative HCL TechBee program. Upon successful completion of training in Software Testing, which comprised both Classroom Training (CRT) and On-the-Job Training (OJT), I seamlessly transitioned into a full-time role as a Software Engineer at HCLTech.
Under the TechBee Higher Education program, concurrently I am pursuing my undergraduate degree in BSc. Hons. in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence from one of India’s premier educational institutions, IIT Guwahati.
Work at HCLTech: As a full-time employee at HCLTech, I am immersing myself in the fast-paced environment of software engineering. The responsibilities may range from coding and debugging to collaborating with teams and meeting project deadlines. The professional environment demands dedication, focus, and continuous learning to stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and industry trends.
At HCLTech, each day presents new challenges and opportunities, where the rhythm of coding and collaboration forms the heartbeat of innovation. As a Software Test Engineer, I am not merely a cog in the machine but a visionary architect, shaping the future with lines of code and pixels of possibility.
Education from IIT Guwahati: Besides the job, HCLTech provides me an opportunity to pursue my higher education from one of India’s foremost institutions, IIT Guwahati. The rigorous academic curriculum delves deep into theoretical concepts and practical applications of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
The online format of the program offers flexibility and convenience, allowing us to access lectures, course materials, and assignments remotely. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including statistics, machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, providing a comprehensive foundation in data science and AI. Moreover, the collaborative learning environment fosters networking opportunities and encourages us to exchange the ideas among peers and industry experts.
Balancing Work and Education: Balancing the demands of full-time work at HCLTech and rigorous academics at IIT Guwahati is undoubtedly challenging. However, effective time management and prioritization are key to success in both spheres. HCLTech allocates specific time slots for work, classes, study sessions, and assignments ensuring that neither professional commitments nor academic responsibilities are compromised. Moreover, leveraging technology tools such as calendars, to-do lists, and productivity apps can aid in organizing and optimizing my schedule.
One advantage of pursuing education alongside work is the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. With classes and exams scheduled on weekends, this program accommodates the busy schedules of working professionals, allowing us to balance our work and educational pursuits effectively.
Support System at HCLTech: Navigating the dual responsibilities of work and education requires a strong support system. At HCLTech, managers understand the delicate balance between work responsibilities and educational pursuits, offering flexible schedules and accommodating personal tasks. Their guidance and mentorship are invaluable, providing insights and advice that propel me forward in my career. Similarly, supportive instructors and academic advisors at IIT Guwahati offers guidance and encouragement, ensuring that I stay motivated and on track with my educational goals.
Time for Self-Care and Hobbies: At HCLTech, between innovation and professional development, there is a significant focus on self-care and fostering personal interests. However, prioritizing physical and mental health is paramount for long-term sustainability. Recognizing the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, HCLTech encourages us to prioritize our well-being by engaging in activities that rejuvenate the mind and body. Whether it’s pursuing sports, music, art, or any other passion, hobbies provide a much-needed balance to my life, fostering creativity and holistic well-being.
